The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) is currently in meetings involving former Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner Barbara Malimali, her legal representatives, and members of the State, including the Solicitor-General and Simione Valenitabua, who represents the Prime Minister. This dialogue aims to address compliance with the Orders issued by the High Court following a recent judgment.

Tomasi Bainivalu, the JSC Secretary, indicated that the Commission, alongside the Acting Attorney-General, is working to provide independent recommendations to the President regarding the implications of the court’s decision. The JSC is dedicated to resolving the issues pertinent to Malimali’s position as FICAC Commissioner with the goal of concluding these matters before March 31, 2026.

The Commission has acknowledged the judgments delivered by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere and is approaching the next steps with due seriousness. Malimali’s attorney, Tanya Waqanika, shared her optimism with Fiji One News, expressing confidence that her client may reclaim her position as FICAC Commissioner.

The proactive stance taken by the JSC inspires hope for an expedited and favorable resolution, which could significantly contribute to restoring effective leadership within FICAC. Further updates regarding the proceedings and their outcomes are anticipated.
