In a troubling legal case, singer Joy Enriquez Orrico has filed a lawsuit against her former music industry associates, including Britt Ham, alleging sexual assault and a failure by the record executives to intervene. According to the complaint, in August 2001, during rehearsals in Los Angeles, Orrico claims she was summoned to Ham’s hotel room under the guise of discussing business and engaging in Bible study. Instead, she alleges that Ham sexually assaulted her, detailing acts of penetration and inappropriate physical contact.
The lawsuit also points to Greg Ham, president of Orrico’s record label, ForeFront Records, who reportedly witnessed Ham’s “improper behavior” on several occasions and informed Orrico’s father about their excessive physical contact by a pool. Now the founder of one:eight Entertainment, which manages several notable Christian artists, Greg Ham allegedly acknowledged to the police years later his awareness of the inappropriate relationship between Orrico and Britt Ham when she was still a minor.
Further complicating the scenario, cofounder of ForeFront Records, Eddie DeGarmo, allegedly confronted Orrico about her relationship with Ham, expressing concerns it could jeopardize her career while also claiming to have received similar reports of their interactions from other employees. The complaint states that the defendants prioritized Orrico’s image as a wholesome artist for financial gain over addressing any allegations of misconduct.
The lawsuit details further alleged assaults occurring in 2003 that culminated when Orrico was still a minor, leading to severe emotional and psychological distress as a result of the experiences she describes. After reaching 18 in March 2004, Orrico claims to have terminated her relationship with Ham.
This case highlights serious issues within the music industry, particularly in contexts where individuals are vulnerable and predatory behavior can persist unchecked due to a lack of oversight and accountability.
