Jordan Beck Shines in MLB with Record-Breaking 5-Hit Game

Jordan Beck, a standout from the Tony Vitello Era of Tennessee baseball, delivered a stellar performance for the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, recording his first five-hit game in Major League Baseball. The former Vol went 5-for-5 at the plate, contributing a double and scoring a run, marking a significant milestone in his career. Beck’s explosive game elevated his batting average to .274 for the season.

Despite Beck’s standout performance, the Rockies fell short against the Houston Astros, losing the game 6-5. Alongside Beck, former college teammate Chase Dollander took the mound for Colorado but struggled, giving up six runs over just 2.2 innings.

Throughout the season, Beck has solidified his place in the lineup, with 17 doubles, four triples, and 10 home runs across 74 games, bringing in 28 RBIs and scoring 40 runs. This achievement comes in his second year in the MLB, having made his debut last season where he hit .188 over 55 games.

Beck’s journey to this point started at the University of Tennessee, where he played under Vitello from 2020 to 2022. During his junior year, he was a key contributor to a team that finished an impressive 57-9 and captured both the SEC regular season and tournament titles. His powerful batting performance that year, where he hit .298 with 18 home runs and 61 RBIs, earned him selection as the 38th overall pick in the MLB draft.

His time at Tennessee was marked by milestones, including a College World Series appearance and a promising rookie season before transitioning into the majors. Beck’s progression in the MLB reflects his growth as a player and the foundation built during his college years.

This story serves as a reminder of the impact that college baseball can have on future professional players, showcasing Beck’s hard work and persistence as he continues to rise in the ranks of Major League Baseball.
