Nearly three decades after the tragic murder of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey, Boulder detectives are reigniting their investigation with new interviews and evidence collection. Ramsey was discovered dead in her home on December 26, 1996, and an autopsy confirmed that she had been strangled. Since that fateful day, authorities have fielded an impressive 21,016 tips, letters, and emails while also interviewing over 1,000 individuals, according to the Boulder Police Department.

In the past year, detectives have conducted a series of new interviews and revisited conversations with certain individuals involved in the case. Additionally, they have gathered new evidence and have either tested or retested critical pieces of evidence, as reported by Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn during the department’s annual case update.

While the police have not disclosed the exact number of recent interviews, Boulder police spokesperson Dionne Waugh emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The department continues to encourage anyone with relevant information to step forward. Individuals can reach out to detectives via email at BouldersMostWanted@bouldercolorado.gov or by calling the Boulder Police tip line at 303-441-1974.

“It is never too late for people with knowledge of this terrible crime to come forward, and I urge those responsible for this murder to contact us,” Chief Redfearn stated, highlighting the determination of law enforcement to seek justice in this enduring and heart-wrenching case. Through renewed efforts, there remains hope that new information can finally lead to answers in this long unsolved mystery.
