John Metchie III Traded to Jets in Eagles Swap

John Metchie III is joining the New York Jets after being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal involves the Jets acquiring the 25-year-old wide receiver, along with a sixth-round pick in the 2027 draft. In exchange, the Eagles receive cornerback Michael Carter II and a seventh-round pick in the same draft.

Metchie, who was formerly with the Houston Texans, has had a challenging career so far. He recorded four receptions for 18 yards during his first season with the Eagles, marking a total of seven games played this year. Originally selected as the 44th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of the University of Alabama, Metchie missed his entire rookie season due to leukemia treatment. In total, over three seasons, he has managed 44 receptions for 430 yards and one touchdown.

On the flip side, the Jets will part ways with Carter, a 26-year-old cornerback in his fifth season out of Duke University. In the current season, Carter has made nine tackles over five games. Throughout his career spanning 65 games, he has accumulated 223 tackles, notched two interceptions, and recorded one sack.

This trade presents both teams with new opportunities as they make adjustments to their rosters and strategize for the remainder of the season. For Metchie, this move could provide a fresh start as he continues to navigate his professional journey in the NFL and impress with his skills on the field.
