John Cena is set to make his final appearances in the WWE, with only two matches left before his retirement. He will defend the WWE Intercontinental Title against Dominik Mysterio at the upcoming WWE Survivor Series and will have his retirement match on December 13 against a tournament winner. However, one notable star will not have the chance to step into the ring with him: Drew McIntyre.
In a recent discussion on Busted Open Radio, McIntyre expressed his disappointment at not being able to face Cena in what could have been a memorable showdown. McIntyre reminisced about his long history with Cena, noting that they have known each other for two decades. He recalled their shared moments, including losing tag titles to Cena and David Otunga back in 2010, and emphasized his desire for a one-on-one match to test himself against Cena, in or out of the ring.
“I’ve been in a triple threat with him, but never a singles match. I would have liked to have been part of the tournament, but of course they’re protecting their golden boy [Cody Rhodes],” McIntyre stated, adding that competing alongside stars like Cena in a significant match would have been an honor. He also expressed a desire for a promo segment with Cena, highlighting Cena’s quick wit and ability to adapt on the mic, traits McIntyre greatly admires.
Despite not facing Cena, McIntyre will showcase his talent at Survivor Series, where he will join forces with Brock Lesnar, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Logan Paul in a WarGames match against Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and the Usos. This high-stakes matchup promises to deliver thrilling action as the wrestling community eagerly anticipates both the Survivor Series and Cena’s emotional farewell.
As Cena approaches the end of an era, fans reflect on his storied career, and though McIntyre may not get the chance to fight him, his appreciation for Cena’s contributions to wrestling remains evident.
