John Cameron Mitchell, co-creator of the iconic musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” is set to reprise his role in “Oh, Mary!” as Mary Todd Lincoln. The production is scheduled to run at the Lyceum Theatre from February 3 to April 26.
Written by Cole Escola and directed by Sam Pinkleton, “Oh, Mary!” made its Broadway debut on July 11, 2024. It gained notable recognition as the first show of the 2024-25 Broadway season to successfully recoup its initial investment.
Mitchell will take the stage after current star Jane Krakowski performs her final show as Mary Todd Lincoln on January 4. In a brief transition, Hannah Solow will step into the role for performances on January 6 and 7, before Jinkx Monsoon returns to the cast starting January 8 for an encore engagement.
In a heartfelt announcement, Mitchell expressed his excitement about joining the production. “Cole Escola and Sam Pinkleton are the wild horses that dragged me back to drag and I couldn’t be happier!” he stated. “As the most mature Mary yet, my days are filled with working the StairMaster™, mainlining Ozempic®, and mastering my Brilliant Dialogue©. ‘Line?!’ Thank you, Cole, may I do you proud mangling your classic!”
This engaging revival aims to delight audiences with its unique portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln, showcasing Mitchell’s vibrant performance alongside a talented cast. As anticipation builds for the new performances, the Broadway production continues to capture the hearts of theatergoers.
