Jo Adell’s Revival: Can He Finally Live Up to His Potential?

Jo Adell, an outfielder for the Angels, has displayed significant improvement this season after a rocky start to his career. While his early performance in 2024 included a low batting average of .190 and a wRC+ of just 80 in March and April, since May 1, he has transformed his game. Adell’s recent stats show a batting average of .255 and a slugging percentage of .582, coupled with 11 home runs and a reduced strikeout rate of 23.2%.

Originally drafted in 2017 and ranked highly in prospect lists, Adell faced challenges making consistent contact and harnessing his potential in the majors. However, a shift in focus on his batting stance has paid off. After abandoning a leg kick that had been a staple of his swing technique, he has adopted a more effective stance which has helped him find success at the plate.

In 2025 alone, Adell’s performance against sliders has notably improved, indicating he has become a more formidable hitter. Meanwhile, his defense in center field remains under scrutiny, with negative metrics in defensive runs saved (DRS) as he navigates this new position.

Although he still has hurdles, particularly with four-seam fastballs, there are signs that Adell is becoming an asset for the Angels. His combination of power and speed, alongside improved hitting statistics, suggests he could evolve into a productive player in the major leagues and contribute significantly to the team.

Encouragingly, the Angels’ decision to stick with Adell through his ups and downs may finally be paying off, which inspires hope not only for his future but also for a team that has endured its share of struggles. Fans can remain optimistic that Adell may continue his upward trajectory and fulfill some of the promise that once surrounded him as a top prospect.
