JMU Athletes Shine on Virginia’s Academic All-State Team!

Six student-athletes from James Madison University have been honored by being selected for the 2024-25 Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State Team, an accolade that highlights outstanding scholars from colleges throughout Virginia. The honored athletes include a senior lacrosse player, a redshirt senior football player, a redshirt junior in women’s basketball, a senior field hockey player, a junior in men’s golf, and a redshirt senior from men’s soccer.

This marks a notable achievement as it is the second consecutive year that both McDaniel and Turner have been recognized on the Academic All-State Team. Each of the six athletes were also finalists for the prestigious 2024-25 JMU Casey Carter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and members of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team this year. Additionally, Dobbs and McDaniel made history as the department’s 23rd and 24th all-time Academic All-Americans, while McDaniel, Tichý, and Turner received honors as JMU’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

A total of 216 athletes across 36 colleges in Virginia received recognition on this year’s list, showcasing the impressive academic and athletic talent present within the state.

This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of these student-athletes, highlighting not only their performance on the field but also their commitment to academic excellence.
