Former President Jimmy Carter, the oldest living president at 99, has expressed his desire to vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming November elections, according to his grandson, Jason Carter. The former president conveyed this sentiment during a recent conversation with his son Chip, which Jason shared with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
As Carter approaches his 100th birthday on October 1, he has been receiving hospice care since February 2023 following multiple hospitalizations. In May, his grandson indicated that the 39th president was “coming to an end” regarding his health status.
Carter, a Democrat who served one term as president, has battled metastatic brain cancer and liver cancer. He previously underwent brain surgery after a fall in 2019. He is renowned for his commitment to human rights and played a crucial role in the Camp David Accords in 1978, facilitating peace between Egypt and Israel.
Before entering politics, Carter was a peanut farmer and served as a US Navy lieutenant. He also held the position of governor of Georgia prior to becoming president.
The former president has been supported throughout this time by his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who passed away in November shortly after entering hospice care. Rosalynn was a notable humanitarian and mental health advocate and co-founded the Carter Center with her husband after his presidency, aspiring to promote global peace and health.
