In a recent interview with Ann Killion from The San Francisco Chronicle, NBA superstar Jimmy Butler shared his thoughts on joining the Golden State Warriors. As a player with a notable history of trades between various teams, Butler expressed his gratitude for being part of such a prestigious organization.
Butler, who was traded to the Warriors from the Miami Heat, emphasized the team’s consistent success, noting that they have made six NBA Finals appearances during the Stephen Curry–Draymond Green–Steve Kerr collaboration, achieving a 4-2 record. “I’m lucky to be part of this phenomenal organization,” he remarked. While acknowledging the challenges of being seen as the “bad guy” at times in his career, Butler maintained a positive outlook, stating, “But that’s okay. I get to play in this wonderful league, with amazing teammates.”
The Warriors acquired Butler after he requested a trade from Miami, and he subsequently signed a lucrative two-year, $110 million extension with the team. As one of the league’s premier two-way players, he has played for several teams including the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, and Miami Heat. He notably led the Heat to the NBA Finals in both 2020 and 2023, despite falling short to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, respectively.
Butler reinforced his winning mentality during the interview, asserting, “I haven’t won one of those, but you can’t call me a loser. I’ve won everywhere that I’ve been. I could care less about how many points I score, how many shots I get. Just tell me what you need me to do to help us win.”
Reflecting on the Warriors’ challenges, Butler is keenly aware of the struggles the team faced in the last season’s playoffs, where they lost to the Timberwolves in the second round, a series affected significantly by Curry’s injury.
As Butler approaches the new season at 36, he brings with him impressive career statistics averaging 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. His experience and work ethic lend hope to the Warriors’ ambitions as they aim for yet another championship title. With Butler’s positive attitude and focus on teamwork, the Warriors are poised for an exciting season ahead, striving to add more banners to their storied history.
