AMC Networks has announced that Jimmi Simpson, known for his roles in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Westworld,” will join the cast of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” for its upcoming third season. Production is currently taking place in Boston.

Simpson, an Emmy Award nominee, will portray a character named Dillard. While details about Dillard remain undisclosed, this role marks Simpson’s latest foray into television, following his appearances in the 2024 series “Dark Matter” and the recent “Twisted Metal” adaptation for Peacock.

Season three of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” will explore the dynamics between characters Maggie and Negan, played by Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, respectively. The duo aims to establish Manhattan’s first thriving community since the apocalypse. However, as chaos stirs in the city, they must confront whether they’ve truly moved past their differences or if lingering issues from their past threaten their survival.

In addition to Simpson, Aimee Garcia from “Lucifer” will join the cast as Renata. The season marks a significant change in leadership, with series creator Eli Jorné stepping down as showrunner. Seth Hoffman, known for his work on the original “Walking Dead” series, will take over the role. Cohan and Morgan will continue to serve as executive producers alongside Scott M. Gimple, Brian Bockrath, and Colin Walsh.

This season promises to deliver intense drama and suspense as it delves deeper into the lives and evolution of its characters, offering fans a fresh yet familiar experience as the narrative unfolds in the post-apocalyptic world.
