Jet’s Shocking Season Shakeup: Saleh Out, New Direction Ahead!

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson made a surprising move by firing head coach Robert Saleh following the team’s 2-3 start to the season. This marks Johnson’s first in-season coaching change in his 25 years of ownership. Johnson indicated that he consulted with general manager Joe Douglas but ultimately made the decision himself. Saleh received the news in his office at the team facility and appeared shocked, according to sources.

Following his dismissal, Saleh expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the Jets organization and thanked players and fans for their support. He had been hired in 2021 with the promise of multiple championships but ended his tenure with a 20-36 record and no playoff appearances.

Johnson commented that he was hoping for better results, stating that this season began with high expectations, especially following the acquisition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He noted the need for a new direction and appointed defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as the interim head coach. Ulbrich described the situation as “four hours of craziness” as he addressed the team and prepared for their upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills.

The Jets have struggled offensively, leading to frustration within the organization, including a forced change of offensive coordinators after last season. Johnson highlighted the importance of finding new ways to win as part of the decision-making process.

Despite the recent setbacks, the Jets remain just one game out of first place in the AFC East. Ulbrich, who lacks head-coaching experience, has been part of a coaching staff that established the Jets as a top defensive team. Johnson’s decision for a mid-season firing is not unique in NFL history, and he remains hopeful that this change will lead to improved performance and results for the Jets moving forward.
