Jets Shake Up Receiving Corps: Adams Returns, Williams on the Move?

The New York Jets have made a significant addition to their wide receiver lineup by reuniting Aaron Rodgers with former Green Bay Packers teammate Davante Adams. This move comes as the Jets continue to reshape their receiving corps, with reports suggesting they are also looking to trade veteran wideout Mike Williams.

Williams, who signed a one-year contract with the Jets during the offseason, has struggled to find his rhythm alongside Garrett Wilson, managing only 10 receptions in six weeks. He suffered a head injury during a recent loss to the Buffalo Bills, having failed to catch three targets from Rodgers, who later commented that Williams ran an incorrect route on a crucial interception.

A two-time 1,000-yard receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers, Williams missed much of the offseason while recovering from an ACL injury that cut his previous season short. During the game on Monday, ESPN noted that Rodgers felt Williams had not fully acclimated to the Jets’ offense after his recovery.

With Adams now settling in as the probable No. 1 receiver, Williams’ opportunities to prove himself may be dwindling. Additionally, fellow former Packers receiver Allen Lazard has been an integral part of the Jets’ passing game.

Several teams may be interested in acquiring Williams:

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are facing bigger issues than their wide receiver situation, especially after a heavy defeat against the Detroit Lions. However, Dak Prescott might welcome an additional deep threat, particularly with Brandin Cooks dealing with injuries and the team struggling to establish a solid ground game or defensive support.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers released Williams earlier this year due to a hefty contract, but his now modest one-year deal could serve as affordable backup for young receivers like Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. Williams has existing chemistry with quarterback Justin Herbert, which could be beneficial.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have been exploring options for high-profile wide receivers but missed out on both Davante Adams and Brandon Aiyuk. They may consider a trade for Williams as a solid alternative, given his skill in contested catches, which could complement veteran Russell Wilson, assuming Wilson can claim the starting position over Justin Fields.
