The Allen Lazard chapter with the New York Jets has officially come to a close. The team has decided to release the veteran wide receiver, according to a source within the organization.
When Aaron Rodgers was let go earlier this offseason, many anticipated that Lazard would also be out, especially given their close friendship and Lazard’s struggles since signing a lucrative $44 million contract in 2023. In April, Lazard opted for a restructured deal, which allowed him to remain on the roster, primarily to provide additional depth at the wide receiver position and due to the coaching staff’s belief in his potential as an effective blocker.
As the season has progressed, Lazard, who recently celebrated his 30th birthday, has had limited playing time. This year, he has managed just 10 receptions for a mere 70 yards and one touchdown, with his longest catch only reaching 16 yards during a loss to the Panthers in October.
In the 2023 season, following Rodgers’ Achilles injury, Lazard participated in 14 games but only accumulated 311 yards and one touchdown. However, his performance improved in 2024 when Rodgers returned, with Lazard recording 37 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns.
Notably, since 2023, Lazard has struggled with a high drop rate of 10.2 percent, placing him among the bottom of receivers with at least 100 targets, according to TruMedia’s statistics.
With the Jets currently facing challenges, including the loss of top wide receiver Garrett Wilson to injured reserve, they will now rely on Adonai Mitchell, John Metchie, and Isaiah Williams to lead the receiving corps for the remainder of the season. Despite the ups and downs, there is potential for fresh opportunities in the Jets’ offensive lineup as they adjust to changes in their roster.
