The Tennessee Titans have reportedly struck a trade deal with the New York Jets involving cornerback Jarvis Brownlee. The agreement includes swapping late-round picks set for 2026, with the Titans upgrading to a sixth-round pick and the Jets receiving a seventh-round choice.
Brownlee, originally selected by the Titans in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, had a promising rookie season. He appeared in 17 games and started 14, showing considerable prowess in coverage with a 59.5% completion rate against him and an 86.7 passer rating. Throughout the season, he registered one interception, nine defensed passes, and managed to recover a fumble.
However, Brownlee’s performance in the current season has seen a downturn, with his completion rate allowed climbing to 80% and the passer rating against him escalating to 125.4. This decline might have prompted the Titans to part ways with him, despite the initial promise shown in his rookie year.
For the New York Jets, acquiring Brownlee could potentially bolster their secondary. The team’s current defensive lineup has not performed up to expectations, notably with Brandon Stephens struggling alongside standout cornerback Sauce Gardner. Stephens’ struggles, reflected in his 81.3% completion rate allowed and a 144.3 passer rating, suggest an opportunity for Brownlee to contend for a starting position.
The acquisition of Brownlee for a relatively modest trade price could prove advantageous for the Jets, especially under the guidance of head coach Aaron Glenn. With a change of scenery and a fresh start, Brownlee has the potential to revive his performance and contribute significantly to the Jets’ defensive efforts.
