Gabriel Jesus is determined to fulfill his ambition of lifting trophies with Arsenal and feels the team is “getting closer” after experiencing three consecutive runners-up finishes in the Premier League.
As Mikel Arteta’s squad prepares for their upcoming match against Inter Milan on Tuesday night, they are currently sitting atop the Champions League table, having won all six of their matches. Arsenal also enjoys a commanding seven-point lead in the Premier League and remains in contention in both domestic cup competitions. Jesus stands out as the only member of the Arsenal squad with prior title-winning experience, having secured four winners’ medals during his tenure with Manchester City.
The Brazil international, who is out of contract at the end of next season, revealed that he has not yet discussed a contract extension but expressed a desire to stay at Arsenal because he feels there’s more to achieve in north London. “My first target is to be healthy,” Jesus stated, referring to his recent recovery from nearly a year out due to a knee injury. “This is my fourth season at Arsenal, and hopefully, I can play maybe one and a half, two seasons without injuries. I want to win trophies with Arsenal because I came here with a purpose.”
When asked about Arsenal’s mentality to claim trophies, Jesus noted, “We are getting closer. Unfortunately, the last three seasons since I joined Arsenal, we finished in second. But we are in good shape – we are happy we are in the position that we are winning games. I do believe we can win.”
To ensure they advance to the Champions League knockout stages, Arsenal only requires a point from their match against Inter, a team that previously defeated them 1-0 at San Siro last season. The current Serie A leaders, managed by Cristian Chivu, will provide a formidable challenge.
This match marks Arsenal’s fourth consecutive away game across various competitions, a unique occurrence for an English top-flight team. Arteta emphasized the crucial nature of this matchup, stating, “That’s massive, we know that. If we win, we know it will solidify our position, so let’s make it happen.”
With strong performances in multiple competitions, Arsenal appears well-positioned for a successful season, and the team’s collective spirit suggests a hopeful journey ahead.
