Fijian rugby sevens legend Jerry Tuwai has been named the Tournament Ambassador for the forthcoming 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s, set to take place from January 15 to 17, 2026, at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. A two-time Olympic gold medallist, Tuwai will take on ambassadorial responsibilities while also being inducted into the prestigious Rugby Town Walk of Fame, recognizing his significant influence on the sport.
In a thrilling development, Tuwai will return to the rugby field, taking on the role of captain for the McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s team. This return has generated immense excitement among fans, as Tuwai epitomizes the values of passion, humility, and exceptional skill that the Coral Coast 7s hopes to promote.
Tournament Founding Chairman Jay Whyte emphasized the ease of selecting Tuwai as ambassador, noting that his journey serves as an inspiration to players in Fiji and beyond. “Having him as our ambassador and witnessing him play again in front of his home fans will be an unforgettable experience for everyone,” he remarked.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Tuwai stated, “It’s an honour to be named ambassador for such a special tournament, and even more so to be recognised on the Walk of Fame in Sigatoka. The Coral Coast Fiji 7s is special, and it’s where players, young and old, come together to celebrate the true spirit of rugby. I can’t wait to be part of it both on and off the field.”
The McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s stands as one of Fiji’s premier rugby sevens festivals, drawing elite international teams, world-class athletes, and thousands of fans each year. The 2026 edition is expected to be particularly thrilling, with Tuwai leading as both player and ambassador, ensuring a memorable experience for all involved.
