Jennie Garth, one of Shannen Doherty’s former co-stars, paid tribute to the actress on Sunday following the news of her death. Garth shared an old photo of the two, likely from their time on Beverly Hills, 90210 in the 1990s.
In her message, Garth expressed her grief and admiration for Doherty, describing her as one of the strongest people she had ever known. She wrote, “I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long-time friend Shannen, the woman I have often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known. Our connection was real and honest.”
Garth also addressed the well-publicized reports of tension between her and Doherty, recalling a specific incident where they argued but never escalated to a physical fight. Despite these moments, Garth emphasized their relationship was built on mutual respect and admiration.
“We were so often pitted against each other, but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship, which was one built on mutual respect and admiration,” Garth wrote. “She was courageous, passionate, determined, and very loving and generous. I will miss her and will always honor her deeply in my heart and in my memories. My heart breaks for her family and Bowie and all the people who loved her.”
Doherty died on Saturday at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer. Other co-stars who paid tribute to her included Jason Priestley, Gabrielle Carteris, Carol Potter, Brian Austin Green, and Alyssa Milano.
