Jen Affleck is embracing new challenges and rediscovering her passion as she competes on “Dancing With the Stars” Season 34 shortly after welcoming her third child. The 26-year-old, widely recognized from “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” had long dreamt of dancing on the show and is thrilled to share her journey with the world. Originally known for her dance clips on TikTok, Affleck is stepping up to the ballroom floor, teaming up with new pro Jan Ravnik, a former backup dancer for Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour.
Affleck, who gave birth just eight weeks before the show’s commencement, has been candid about her postpartum struggles in the past. After overcoming significant hurdles in her mental health journey, she is focused on prioritizing her happiness and setting a positive example for her family. “I began this journey on social media and reality TV to share my story and hopefully inspire or bring joy to others,” Affleck explained.
During the premiere, Affleck and Ravnik performed a salsa to Bad Bunny’s “NUEVAYoL.” The performance received feedback from judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli, who advised against overusing lifts that detract from showcasing her dance abilities. In response, Affleck is keen to emphasize her dancing skills with a quickstep to A-ha’s “Take On Me” during the upcoming One Hit Wonders night.
Affleck playfully teased fans, hinting that her upcoming routine will include the countertop dancing that initially gained her social media fame. Beyond the dance floor, Affleck is set to return for Season 3 of “Mormon Wives” on Hulu, where she intends to reveal a more authentic, upbeat version of herself not seen in previous seasons. Affleck reflected, “Season 1 and Season 2 showed a more somber side of me, but that’s not who I genuinely am. I’m excited for fans to see the real me this time.”
The cast of “Dancing With the Stars” includes other digital creators like Alix Earle and Hilaria Baldwin, highlighting a shift in entertainment as traditional and digital platforms merge. “This crossover is creating deeper engagement and connection with fans,” Affleck remarked. Moreover, there’s a touch of camaraderie with fellow “Mormon Wives” star Whitney Leavitt joining the cast—a friendship Affleck finds supportive as they navigate both motherhood and the competition.
“Dancing With the Stars” continues to engage audiences, airing weekly on ABC and Disney+, as contestants like Affleck share their stories through dance and resilience.
