President Jeffrey R. Holland, the leader of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, is currently hospitalized due to ongoing health issues, as disclosed in an official announcement from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Wednesday, December 24. The statement highlighted that President Holland is receiving specialized medical care and is surrounded by his family during this Christmas season.

The church’s statement expressed heartfelt gratitude for the many prayers offered for President Holland and conveyed wishes for faith and peace during this time, which honors the birth of Jesus Christ.

Over the past few years, President Holland has encountered significant health challenges. He took a two-month leave in April 2023 to prioritize his health and was hospitalized again for an extended duration, eventually returning home in September 2023.

Holland is known for his previous roles as a religious educator and as president of Brigham Young University. He was called as a General Authority Seventy in 1989 and became an Apostle on June 23, 1994, under President Howard W. Hunter’s administration. Following the passing of President M. Russell Ballard, he began serving as the acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on November 15, 2023, and officially took on the presidency of the quorum on October 15, 2025, as President Dallin H. Oaks became the President of the Church.

This latest hospitalization reinforces the need for continued prayers and support for President Holland and his family as they navigate this challenging time. The church community remains hopeful for his recovery during this significant holiday season.
