Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is gaining significant attention in the NFL coaching carousel, now up to six interview requests for head coaching positions. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Pittsburgh Steelers have added Hafley to their list of candidates following the recent resignation of Mike Tomlin.
The Steelers, a franchise known for its stability, will be searching for only its fourth head coach since 1969. Hafley has begun his interview process this week, already completing discussions with the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, and Atlanta Falcons. Additionally, both the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders have expressed interest in interviewing him.
After the Packers’ playoff loss against the Chicago Bears, head coach Matt LaFleur stated he “fully” anticipates Hafley securing a head coaching role this off-season, highlighting the defensive coordinator’s rising profile. Over the past two seasons, Hafley has led the Packers to a notable No. 6 ranking in scoring defense for the 2024 season and maintained a robust defensive lineup until key injuries impacted performance in 2025.
While Hafley’s coaching journey is garnering attention, he did not receive an interview request from the New York Giants, who are reportedly looking to hire John Harbaugh. Furthermore, the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns have not yet requested an interview with Hafley.
With multiple opportunities ahead, Hafley’s future in the NFL appears promising, reflecting the growing trend of teams seeking innovative defensive minds to lead their organizations.
