Ashton Jeanty, a junior running back, has made a significant impact this season, racking up 845 rushing yards in just four games. He has achieved impressive performances, rushing for 190 yards or more in three games. In Boise State’s dominant 56-14 victory over FCS Portland State, Jeanty only had 11 carries and did not see action in the second half.
If Jeanty maintains his current pace of 10.3 yards per carry, he could potentially finish the regular season with an astounding total of 2,535 rushing yards. This would place him among an exclusive group of four college football players who have reached over 2,000 rushing yards in a regular season over the past decade.
The players Jeanty could join include:
Melvin Gordon from Wisconsin, who had an exceptional season in 2014, finishing with 2,260 rushing yards over 12 games and scoring 26 touchdowns. His remarkable run included a jaw-dropping 408 yards and four touchdowns against No. 16 Nebraska after the Badgers rebounded from an early-season loss.
Rashaad Penny from San Diego State excelled in 2017, stepping into a starring role after backing up prolific running back Donnel Pumphrey. Penny not only matched Pumphrey’s output but surpassed it, completing the season with 2,027 rushing yards, including a streak of four games with over 200 yards.
Tevin Coleman of Indiana also had a standout year in 2014, rushing for 2,036 yards despite the Hoosiers struggling to a 4-8 record. Coleman’s consistency was remarkable, as he broke the 100-yard mark in all but one game.
D’Onta Foreman of Texas turned heads in 2016, bouncing back from a quieter sophomore year to accumulate 2,028 rushing yards. Despite Texas finishing with a disappointing 5-7 record, Foreman showcased his talent with multiple high-scoring games and exceeded 150 rushing yards in seven contests.
