Jeannie Mai has opened up about the emotional toll of her divorce from rapper Jeezy, describing it as akin to “dying while still alive.” Speaking on iHeartRadio’s “Question Everything” podcast, the television personality reflected on the heartbreak that often accompanies the end of a marriage, stating, “Divorce is heartbreaking, no matter what. It’s one of the greatest pains that any human has to endure.”

After finalizing their divorce over a year ago, Mai, 47, shared that the process felt almost inhumane, forcing individuals to protect themselves while navigating the complexities of a split. “Divorce does this inhumane thing that forces you to then protect yourself to get what you need from the divorce,” she explained. Despite the pain, she holds onto joyful memories from her time with Jeezy, including the birth of their daughter, Monaco, in January 2022.

As Monaco recently celebrated her fourth birthday, Mai expressed gratitude that her daughter is too young to remember the turmoil surrounding their divorce. “I am so lucky that Monaco was the only one when this happened. She’s not gonna remember what that turmoil is like. That’s not something I want her to ever have to think about. My job is to define peace for her,” she said.

Their divorce, which was filed by Jeezy in September 2020 after two-and-a-half years of marriage, reportedly involved allegations of infidelity on his part. Despite the difficulties following their split, Mai noted that the experience brought her significant clarity and served as a “greatest awakening.”

This candid reflection highlights both the pain and the resilience that can emerge from life’s challenging chapters. As she continues to prioritize her daughter’s well-being, Mai’s journey speaks to the strength one can find even in difficult times.
