Pine-Richland’s Jay Timmons, a promising cornerback, has officially switched his commitment from Florida State to Ohio State, bolstering the Buckeyes’ 2026 recruiting class. Timmons, who ranks as the nation’s No. 136 player and the No. 17 cornerback, had been committed to the Seminoles since June 24. His decision to change schools is particularly significant given his family’s connection to Florida State, as his father, Lawrence Timmons, was a standout linebacker for the Seminoles from 2004 to 2006 and enjoyed a successful 11-year career in the NFL, primarily with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Timmons hails from Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, just north of Pittsburgh, and his commitment to Ohio State marks a step in forging his own identity within the sport, separate from his father’s legacy. His decision follows closely on the heels of his recent engagement with the Buckeyes, filling a gap left by another recruit, Jakob Weatherspoon, who decommitted in July to join North Carolina.
As part of the ninth-ranked recruiting class, Timmons joins another standout, Jordan Thomas from New Jersey, bringing the total number of commitments to 22. This influx of talent continues to positions Ohio State as a formidable force in college football. With a strong recruiting strategy in place, the Buckeyes are clearly focused on strengthening their team for the upcoming seasons.
