Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested on Thursday following a minor car accident in downtown Franklin, Tennessee, as reported by the Franklin Police Department.
The 41-year-old Cutler faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, possession of a handgun while under the influence, failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, and implied consent violations, according to a news release.
At around 5 p.m., officers responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Bridge Street and 2nd Avenue North. A driver of a GMC informed police that a man in a white Ram truck had rear-ended his vehicle and tried to offer $2,000 to avoid involving the authorities before attempting to leave the scene.
Upon speaking with Cutler, officers noted that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol; he had bloodshot eyes, was unsteady on his feet, and slurred his speech, as outlined in an affidavit from Williamson County. Cutler refused to take a standardized field sobriety test.
Police took Cutler into custody, and a blood search warrant was executed at a nearby medical center. During a search of his vehicle, a rifle was reportedly discovered in the back seat, and a loaded handgun was found in the center console.
Cutler was subsequently booked into Williamson County Jail and later released on a $5,000 bond. The terms of his release require that he does not drive vehicles without an ignition interlock device, which detects breath alcohol content, or while under the influence.
A spokesperson for Cutler has not yet provided a comment on the situation.
Jay Cutler is recognized for his 12-year NFL career, predominantly with the Chicago Bears. He was formerly married to reality TV star Kristin Cavallari, with whom he shares three children—a son and a daughter. They divorced in 2020 after starring in the reality series “Very Cavallari,” which focused on Cavallari’s business pursuits and their family life.
