Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested in downtown Franklin, Tennessee, after a minor collision on Thursday, as reported by the Franklin Police Department.
The 41-year-old Cutler faces several charges, including driving under the influence, possession of a handgun while under the influence, failure to exercise due care to prevent a collision, and implied consent violations, according to a news release.
Police were called to the intersection of Bridge Street and 2nd Avenue North around 5 p.m. following reports of an accident. An affidavit from Williamson County details that the driver of a GMC stated that a man in a White Ram truck had rear-ended his vehicle and offered him $2,000 to avoid calling the police before trying to flee the scene.
When officers arrived, they spoke to Cutler, who reportedly exhibited signs of intoxication, including the smell of alcohol, bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech, and appeared to be staggering. Cutler refused to participate in a standardized field sobriety test.
Police took Cutler into custody and obtained a blood search warrant at a nearby medical facility. A search of his vehicle uncovered a rifle in the back seat and a loaded handgun in the center console.
Cutler was booked into the Williamson County Jail and later released on a $5,000 bond. His release included a stipulation that he is prohibited from driving vehicles without an ignition interlock device, which tests blood alcohol content, or while impaired, as detailed in the affidavit.
A spokesperson for Cutler has yet to respond to requests for comments.
Jay Cutler is widely recognized for his 12-season career in the NFL, primarily with the Chicago Bears.
