Horror Inc. is ramping up its celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Friday the 13th franchise with an innovative reimagining of the iconic character Jason Voorhees. This new design, which was revealed by Adweek last week, comes courtesy of renowned makeup effects artist Greg Nicotero, known for his work on “The Walking Dead.”
President of Horror, Inc., Rob Barsamian, emphasized the commitment to maintain Jason’s classic essence while also evolving his appearance to reflect modern sensibilities. The redesigned character sports a new 13-hole mask and a signature full body look that reinforces his reputation as a fearsome slasher, complete with his trademark machete.
Marc Toberoff from Friday the 13th LLC expressed excitement over the new direction, highlighting the collaboration with Horror, Inc. to rejuvenate Jason’s legacy while catering to long-time fans and attracting a new generation. “We’re thrilled to ensure this return delivers everything longtime fans have been craving,” Toberoff stated.
The foundational project for the new Jason Universe will be the upcoming Peacock series “Crystal Lake,” which features Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees. However, the ambitions for the Jason Universe are expansive, with plans for new movies, gaming, collectibles, and immersive experiences. Chief marketing officer Sheri Conn affirmed that they are committed to listening to fans and envisioning a future that builds on the franchise’s rich history.
Additionally, Horror Inc. has entered into a partnership with Striker Entertainment to enhance global consumer products related to the Jason brand, aiming to strengthen its market presence beyond just film and television.
Robbie Barsamian, executive vice president of Horror, Inc., reflected on Jason’s significant impact on the horror genre and the excitement surrounding forthcoming stories and experiences. As the franchise marks its 45-year legacy, fans can look forward to thrilling developments that promise to honor Jason Voorhees’ storied past while paving the way for the future of horror.
In a related event, Bloody Disgusting will collaborate with Paramount Scares & Street Food Cinema for a special 45th anniversary celebration at The Autry Museum in Los Angeles on June 13. This event highlights the enduring appeal of the franchise and its ability to engage both dedicated followers and fresh faces alike. The continued excitement around Jason Voorhees underscores the character’s lasting legacy in horror history.
