Released in 2011 and based on a 2002 novel by Ken Bruen, “Blitz” follows an intense storyline revolving around a violent police officer on a mission to apprehend a serial killer in southeast London. The film features an impressive supporting cast, including Paddy Considine, Aiden Gillen, Zawe Ashton, and Mark Rylance. Also starring is David Morrissey, who plays a newspaper reporter entwined with the murderer.

Despite boasting a less-than-stellar rating of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, reviews have pointed out the film’s highlights. The consensus on the site notes that while “Blitz” draws on familiar themes, it effectively showcases Statham’s capabilities in the lead role. Critics from the Evening Standard have recognized the impressive performances from the main cast, particularly praising the emotional depth brought to their characters. Empire described the movie as a welcome return to Statham’s comfort zone, while Hot Press awarded it four stars, praising its sharp wit, thrilling action, and compelling moral dilemmas.

In addition to “Blitz,” Statham has an exciting slate of projects lined up. He is set to star in “Shelter,” slated for release on January 30, 2026, where he will portray a former assassin tasked with protecting a girl from his old organization. The film also features Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, and Daniel Mays. Furthermore, he has completed filming on “Mutiny,” which will debut on August 21, 2026, and sees him as a private security worker wrongfully accused of murder.
