Jason Day Tests Avoda Curved-Face Irons at Bank of Utah Championship

Avoda Golf made a significant impact during The Masters in 2024 when Bryson DeChambeau debuted the brand’s innovative curved-face irons, drawing attention and sparking interest in this new technology. Following up on that momentum, DeChambeau went on to secure his second US Open title and a LIV Golf victory in Korea, showcasing the potential of these unique clubs. Despite this success, the adoption of Avoda’s technology among other professional golfers had been limited—until now.

In a recent development reported by GolfWRX, Major champion Jason Day was spotted practicing with Avoda irons at the Bank of Utah Championship. This revelation marks a potential turning point for the brand as Day took a keen interest in their curved-face technology, which was first brought to Avoda’s attention by his coach. After testing their retail version for a few weeks, Day’s clubs, featured at the practice range in Utah, were customized based on his feedback.

Distinct from DeChambeau’s set, Day has chosen conventional variable-length irons rather than a full set of one-length options. His current set reportedly includes eight irons, potentially incorporating either a 3-iron or a gap wedge, complementing his traditional set configuration from 4-iron to pitching wedge. Additionally, the longer irons are designed with a cavity-back style, while those at the lower range reflect a blade or muscleback style, reminiscent of combo sets.

Day has a storied history in the sport, having primarily utilized TaylorMade clubs throughout a 14-year partnership that led to significant achievements, including major victories and 12 PGA Tour wins. Since parting ways with TaylorMade in 2021, he has experimented with various brands, showcasing a willingness to explore different equipment options. Recently, he used TaylorMade P7CBs in his last tournament, the BMW Championship.

The shift to Avoda could signal a bold step in Day’s equipment journey. Known for his willingness to try new brands—such as when he left Nike to sign with Malbon Golf—Day’s support for Avoda complements his eclectic style, which also includes using the Bridgestone B RX MindSet golf ball and wearing Payntr Golf shoes, where he holds equity.

As Day prepares for his first PGA Tour appearance since the BMW Championship in August, he is expected to be one of the frontrunners at the Bank of Utah Championship. His recent performance and his successful navigation of the FedEx Cup standings have secured his place in the PGA Tour’s Signature Events for 2026, providing him with a platform to continue honing his skills as the season comes to a close. With the addition of Avoda irons, Day’s pursuit of excellence remains ever-expanding, promising exciting prospects for the golfer and his fans alike.
