Jasmine Paolini is on the hunt for the ideal coaching fit as she gears up for the upcoming US Open. Earlier this year, she parted ways with her long-time coach Renzo Furlan, who helped guide her to impressive finals at both the French Open and Wimbledon in 2024.
After her split with Furlan, Paolini brought on Marc Lopez, a Spanish coach renowned for his work with Rafael Nadal. The partnership saw success culminate in a notable victory at the 2025 Italian Open, where Paolini triumphed over Coco Gauff. However, after disappointing performances at the French Open and Wimbledon, where she failed to reach the quarterfinals, Paolini and Lopez decided to go separate ways.
In a recent press conference prior to the 2025 Canadian Open, Paolini introduced her new coach, Federico Gaio, who will also assist her in Cincinnati and at the US Open. Paolini expressed a forward-looking attitude, saying, “As for the organization, I’m here with Federico Gaio…we’re trying to organize ourselves as best we can: we’ll see what the future holds.”
In terms of fitness, Paolini updated fans on an injury concern, sharing that while her knee has been troublesome, she feels optimistic about her recovery. “The pain in my knee is better, I hope there aren’t any setbacks, but I’m positive,” she stated.
Federico Gaio, 33, is embarking on his first coaching role after a career that saw him reach a career-high ATP singles ranking of 124th. Though he had limited success in Grand Slams, he’ll undoubtedly bring valuable insights to Paolini as they prepare for the competitive landscape ahead.
As Paolini aims to improve her historically tougher record at the US Open, she will participate in the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open to gear up for her performance in New York. Having reached the fourth round at the US Open last year, her goal will be to exceed that achievement this time around.
Anticipation continues to build for the 2025 US Open, starting August 24, as Paolini works with Gaio and builds momentum from her recent preparations. With a blend of hopefulness and renewed focus, she looks poised to make a significant impact in her upcoming matches.
