Fiji and Japan have significantly enhanced their bilateral relations over the past year, marked by high-level exchanges and increased collaboration in key areas of development. Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Hiroshi Tajima, emphasized that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s recent visit to Japan was a pivotal moment for the two nations.

During this landmark trip, Prime Minister Rabuka held discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, culminating in the signing of the Japan–Fiji Lomavata Kizuna Partnership. This agreement aims to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Tajima underscored the deep friendship between Japan and Fiji, united by the vastness of the Pacific Ocean and shared values. He pointed out Japan’s ongoing support in various sectors, including climate action, disaster resilience, infrastructure development, renewable energy, public health, education, and maritime initiatives. He affirmed Japan’s commitment to reinforcing the bonds of Kizuna, or “friendship,” with Fiji.

Kiti Temo, Chief of Protocol from Fiji’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed congratulations from Fiji’s leaders and citizens to His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan. She reinforced that the partnership is solid, founded on mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the principles upheld by the United Nations.

Furthermore, Temo acknowledged the vital contributions made by the Japan International Cooperation Agency in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, climate resilience, and community-driven projects. This ongoing collaboration serves as a testament to the enduring friendship and commitment that exist between Fiji and Japan, paving the way for a prosperous future together.
