Jane Lynch recently reunited with several former “Glee” co-stars during the season premiere of “Celebrity Weakest Link,” now airing Mondays on Fox at 9 p.m. The beloved actress, known for her role as Sue Sylvester on “Glee,” expressed excitement over revisiting her character, even donning a tracksuit reminiscent of the one her character famously wore. “I was thrilled. I put the tracksuit on again,” Lynch shared, noting that a new suit had to be specially made as her original was auctioned off previously.
Lynch, who hosted a “Weakest Link” revival on NBC from 2020 to 2024, has moved to Fox to continue hosting the latest iteration of the show. The “Glee” reunion episode, which aired on September 15, featured her former co-stars, including Chord Overstreet, Becca Tobin, Heather Morris, Dot-Marie Jones, Jenna Ushkowitz, Amber Riley, Max Adler, and Alex Newell. The group reminisced about their time on the hit Fox musical series that aired over 100 episodes between 2009 and 2015.
Lynch expressed particular surprise at the quiz prowess displayed by Overstreet and Morris, given their characters’ somewhat dim-witted portrayals in “Glee.” “I guess I probably protected them,” Lynch remarked, impressed by their performance on the game show.
Throughout the years, the “Glee” cast has embarked on varied career paths. Tragically, Cory Monteith passed away during the show’s production in 2013. In contrast, Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele, and Darren Criss have made a name for themselves on Broadway, while Morrison has been featured on “So You Think You Can Dance.” Lynch proudly commented, “The talent always rises to the top,” acknowledging the diverse successes of her former colleagues.
In addition to her game show duties, Lynch appeared in Hulu’s acclaimed series “Only Murders in the Building” as Sazz Pataki, a role that concluded in the third season. Describing her experience, Lynch praised co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, saying, “Steve is the kindest, most mellow, charming, and funny guy.”
Looking ahead to upcoming episodes of “Celebrity Weakest Link,” Lynch revealed her surprise at Monica Potter’s performance, describing her as “brilliant” despite initially appearing disconnected. While discussing her role as host, Lynch admitted she adopts a character who enjoys delivering elimination news, although she has personal qualms about it. “But we do it all in good fun. Everybody knows the gig, nobody takes it personally,” she reassured.
