Jamie Lee Curtis has made a substantial contribution of $1 million to a relief fund aimed at assisting communities affected by the severe wildfires currently blazing through the Los Angeles area. In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Curtis expressed her concern for her community, emphasizing the ongoing support from first responders and neighbors uniting in the face of the destruction.
She stated, “As the fire still rages on… my husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there.” Curtis revealed she is actively collaborating with state and city leaders, including Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass, and Senator Schiff, to identify the most effective ways to allocate the funds for maximum impact.
Appearing on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon,” Curtis described the current situation as “fucking gnarly,” highlighting the personal toll the fires have taken on her life. She noted that the entire city of Pacific Palisades, where she resides, is in jeopardy. “Many, many, many friends now have lost their homes. So it’s a really awful situation,” she said.
As the wildfires continue to wreak havoc in Southern California, firefighters are battling multiple blazes that have consumed over 15,000 acres in Pacific Palisades and Malibu, leading to mass evacuations and the destruction of hundreds of structures. A significant fire, locally known as the Eaton Fire, has impacted the Altadena and Pasadena areas, while the Hurst Fire has spread across more than 700 acres in the San Fernando Valley.
In response to the escalating crisis, several events across the entertainment industry have been canceled, including red carpet premieres and the Critics Choice Awards, indicating the widespread effect of the fires on Hollywood. The Entertainment Industry Foundation has also mobilized to facilitate public donations to aid the frontlines and those displaced by the wildfires. This organization has a history of supporting similar crises, previously organizing efforts for the wildfires in Maui with celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne Johnson.
This spirit of giving and solidarity in the face of disaster highlights not only the challenges that the residents of Southern California are currently experiencing but also the strength and resilience of the community and how they come together in such difficult times. Curtis’s donation exemplifies how individuals and organizations can make a meaningful difference in times of crisis.
