James Taylor’s anticipated performance at the Democratic National Convention has been canceled, according to officials who made the announcement Monday night. DNC representatives explained that the decision was made to expedite the program in order to allow President Biden to address the audience as soon as possible. They emphasized the lively atmosphere at the convention, highlighting the diverse coalition supporting the Harris-Walz ticket throughout the week.
Earlier, organizers had released a schedule that included performances from Taylor, along with fellow artists Jason Isbell and Mickey Guyton, on the convention’s first night in Chicago. The evening was to feature several impactful speeches, with Guyton set to perform just after Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s address.
Taylor, renowned for classics such as “You’ve Got a Friend” and “How Sweet It Is,” was slated to take the stage following First Lady Jill Biden’s remarks and just before President Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden, introduced him.
The convention’s first night will also showcase a series of notable speeches. Guyton was initially scheduled to perform around 7 p.m., followed by Isbell and then Taylor. The event will take place at the United Center, where President Biden will headline the evening.
The night’s schedule is packed with various presentations and remarks from prominent figures, including mayors, members of Congress, and labor leaders, culminating in the President’s address.
