They explained that due to the enthusiastic applause interrupting speakers, the program had to be adjusted to ensure that President Biden could address the audience directly and promptly. Earlier that day, it was announced that the first night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago would feature performances by renowned artists, including Taylor, Jason Isbell, and Mickey Guyton, amid a series of significant speeches.
Guyton was set to perform first, following remarks from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, before Isbell took the stage after reproductive rights activist Deja Foxx’s address. Taylor, who is well-known for his classic songs such as “You’ve Got a Friend” and “How Sweet It Is,” was to perform later in the evening, just after First Lady Jill Biden’s speech and prior to President Biden taking the stage.
This marks Taylor’s second appearance at a DNC event, having performed at the 2012 convention as well. President Biden was slated to headline the convention’s opening night at the United Center in Chicago.
