A resident of Jamaica, Queens, Shaurna Walters, has emerged as a lucky winner of the top prize in the New York Lottery’s Million Dollar Raffle, as announced by officials on Tuesday. Walters won an impressive $1,000,000, one of 15 total winners selected in this special promotional raffle.

After tax withholdings, Walters received a lump sum of $612,247 from her winnings. The winning ticket, which brought her fortune, was purchased at J&E Dynamic Store located in her hometown of Jamaica.

The Million Dollar Raffle celebrated the bicentennial of the Erie Canal and saw top-prize tickets sold in various locations throughout New York State. Besides Walters’ ticket, other winners were found in Chenango, Dutchess, Genesee, Schenectady, Suffolk, and Westchester counties.
