Jalen Ramsey has finalized a lucrative contract ahead of the Miami Dolphins’ season opener.

The All-Pro cornerback signed a three-year, $72.3 million deal with the Dolphins, as reported by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Cameron Wolf. With an annual salary of approximately $24.1 million, Ramsey is set to become the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL for the second time in his career.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ramsey will receive $55.3 million in guaranteed money starting this season, which would establish him as the cornerback with the highest career earnings in NFL history.

The Dolphins acquired Ramsey in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams in March 2023. Despite missing the first seven games of the previous season, he made a significant impact by recording three interceptions in the last ten games, earning a spot in the Pro Bowl.

In recent months, Miami has made key moves to secure its roster. Even after losing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins in free agency, the Dolphins extended quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s contract with a $212.4 million deal, secured head coach Mike McDaniel through 2028, and restructured wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s agreement.

Ramsey’s extension follows closely behind the Denver Broncos’ Patrick Surtain II, who set a new high for cornerbacks with his own deal worth $24 million per year.

The Dolphins are scheduled to kick off the 2024 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. However, Ramsey is currently dealing with a hamstring injury, and Coach McDaniel mentioned he is uncertain whether the cornerback will be available for Week 1.
