Jalen Ramsey has signed a three-year contract extension with the Miami Dolphins worth $24.1 million annually, making him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history for the second time, according to sources familiar with the deal. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed the signing on Friday.
The new contract, totaling $72.3 million, guarantees Ramsey $55.3 million beginning this season, positioning him for the highest career earnings for a cornerback in the league’s history.
Discussions regarding the extension had been ongoing for weeks, and the deal was finalized after a recent market adjustment when Pat Surtain II signed an extension with the Denver Broncos, averaging $24 million per year.
“I feel like it’s been a great relationship, it’s been a growing relationship,” Ramsey stated. “They’ve learned a lot about me, who I am not only as a player but as a person. And the same goes for me; I’ve learned a lot about them and their authenticity.”
The Dolphins acquired Ramsey from the Los Angeles Rams last offseason, trading a third-round pick and tight end Hunter Long. Despite a knee injury that limited him to 10 games last season, Ramsey still managed to record three interceptions, which marked his third consecutive season with at least that many, earning him his seventh Pro Bowl selection.
