Jalen Ramsey has secured a three-year contract extension with the Miami Dolphins, valued at $24.1 million per year, as reported by sources. This deal marks Ramsey’s second time becoming the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed the extension on Friday. The new three-year, $72.3 million contract guarantees Ramsey $55.3 million starting from this season, positioning him for the highest career earnings among cornerbacks in NFL history.
Negotiations for the extension had been ongoing for several weeks. The agreement came after Pat Surtain II set a new market standard by signing an extension with the Denver Broncos for an average annual value of $24 million.
Ramsey expressed his gratitude for the relationship with the Dolphins, stating, “Ever since I’ve gotten here, I feel like it’s been a great relationship, it’s been a growing relationship…I’ve learned a lot about them and how real they are.”
The Dolphins acquired Ramsey from the Los Angeles Rams last offseason, trading a third-round draft pick and tight end Hunter Long. Despite suffering a knee injury early in training camp, which limited him to 10 games last season, Ramsey achieved his third consecutive season with at least three interceptions, earning his seventh Pro Bowl selection.
