Jacob Elordi Takes on the Iconic Creature in Del Toro’s Unique “Frankenstein” Adaptation

Jacob Elordi is set to portray the unforgettable creature in Guillermo Del Toro’s highly anticipated adaptation of “Frankenstein.” In this reimagining of Mary Shelley’s iconic tale, Elordi will star opposite Oscar Isaac, who plays the ambitious scientist Victor Frankenstein. The film also features a talented ensemble cast, including Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery.

Del Toro, who serves as the writer, director, and producer, describes the film as a deeply emotional narrative that explores themes of fatherhood and identity. At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, he emphasized that he is not aiming to create a horror film but rather a personal story that delves into the complexities of familial relationships.

Originally, Andrew Garfield was cast in the lead role, but due to complications arising from the SAG-AFTRA strike, he had to step back, leading to Elordi’s involvement. The actor expressed strong enthusiasm for the project, noting its potential, and shared that the cast studied classic 1930s Frankenstein films for inspiration during production. He humorously mentioned receiving a baby development book from Del Toro at the start of filming, linking the thematic content of the film to his role.

This adaptation continues Netflix’s fruitful collaboration with Del Toro, which has produced acclaimed works, including “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” and the anthology series “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.” The shooting took place in Aberdeen, Scotland, contributing to the film’s gothic aesthetic.

Del Toro discussed the blend of creation and destruction, stating that the story encapsulates the beauty found in ruins and the theme of gothic romance. “Frankenstein” is set for release on Netflix in November 2025, promising to be an artistic reinterpretation of a classic narrative.

This adaptation not only revives a timeless story but also invites audiences to reflect on familial bonds and the human experience, making it a compelling watch.
