Jackie Chan, the legendary martial artist and actor, is showing that age is just a number when it comes to performing his own stunts. At 71 years old, Chan continues to wow audiences by upholding his commitment to action-packed films, an endeavor he has maintained for over six decades.
In a recent interview with Haute Living, Chan firmly stated, “Of course, I always do my own stunts. It’s who I am. That’s not changing until the day I retire, which is never!” This dedication showcases not only his passion for action cinema but also his deep-rooted familiarity with the demanding physicality required in his performances.
With over 64 years of stunt work behind him, Chan emphasized that performing stunts has become second nature — almost like muscle memory. He noted, “When you’ve done it for 64 years straight, there’s no physical preparation anymore. Everything is in your heart and soul; it is muscle memory.”
Chan acknowledged the impact of technology on the film industry, remarking that while actors today can do “virtually anything,” there remains something special about the authenticity of performing stunts live. He cautioned aspiring performers saying, “But I’m not encouraging anybody to risk their lives to do the stunts like I did; it truly is too dangerous.”
In his latest project, Chan reprises the role of Mr. Han from the 2010 film “Karate Kid,” now mentoring a new kung fu talent, Li Fong, portrayed by Ben Wang. He will also share the screen with Ralph Macchio, who returns as Daniel LaRusso from the classic “Karate Kid” series.
