Jack White Takes Legal Aim at Trump Over Unauthorized Music Use

Detroit musician Jack White has threatened legal action against former President Donald Trump after his campaign used one of White’s songs in a social media post.

Margo Martin, Trump’s former deputy director of communications, shared a video showing Trump boarding a plane with The White Stripes’ hit “Seven Nation Army” playing in the background. This video has since been removed from social media.

In response, White took to Instagram to express his outrage, stating, “Oh….Don’t even think about using my music you fascists,” and announced intentions to sue Trump’s campaign over the unauthorized use of his work. He added, “Law suit coming from my lawyers about this (to add to your 5 thousand others.) Have a great day at work today Margo Martin.”

White also criticized Trump for the campaign’s behavior at Arlington National Cemetery, where Trump was present with Gold Star families who lost loved ones during the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. An Army official reported that a female staff member at the cemetery was “abruptly pushed aside” during a dispute regarding the shooting of photos and videos.

White concluded with a pointed message, suggesting that Trump’s actions would alienate military families, stating, “You should lose every military family’s vote immediately from that if ANYTHING makes sense anymore.”

CBS News Detroit has reached out to Trump’s campaign for a statement regarding White’s remarks.

Jack White is scheduled to perform two shows in the Detroit area this weekend, including a small gig at The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on Sunday and a reunion with his former bandmates at the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival on Monday.
