Italian Duo Shines: Errani and Paolini Capture First Grand Slam Title at Roland Garros!

Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, the No. 2 seeds, celebrated a significant achievement by winning the women’s doubles title at the 2025 Roland Garros, marking their first Grand Slam victory as a duo. This win adds to their impressive record on the Hologic WTA Tour, where they have consistently been one of the top doubles teams.

In a hard-fought final, Errani and Paolini overcame the unseeded pair of Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan and Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. The match lasted 2 hours and 15 minutes, showcasing the determination and skill of the Italian team. Their victory makes them the first Italian team to earn the Roland Garros women’s doubles title since Errani partnered with Roberta Vinci back in 2012.

During the trophy presentation, Errani shared her reflections on their journey, acknowledging the intensity of competing at this level and expressing her pride in their accomplishment. “Winning a Grand Slam is the best thing in the world,” she stated.

For Paolini, this victory represents her first Grand Slam title across all disciplines. In previous years, she reached various finals, including those in singles and doubles competitions, but this win signifies a milestone in her career.

Errani, a former WTA Doubles World No. 1, now holds a total of six Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles, this being her first since her earlier successes with Vinci. Over the past two weeks at Roland Garros, the 38-year-old displayed remarkable performance, also securing the mixed doubles title alongside Andrea Vavassori.

Their successful partnership began in 2023 and has steadily grown, including a WTA 1000 title in Rome last year and a gold medal at the Olympic Games. The duo fell short in a previous Grand Slam final but took this opportunity to claim victory on the prestigious clay court.

Despite their defeat, Danilina and Krunic fought valiantly, having previously achieved impressive upsets throughout the tournament against higher-seeded opponents. Their resilience illustrates the highly competitive nature of women’s doubles tennis.

This victory not only highlights the individual and combined talents of Errani and Paolini but also offers hope and inspiration for the future of Italian tennis, as they continue to build on their legacies in the sport.
