The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Israel, Sharren Haskel, has recently underscored the strength of the partnership between Israel and Fiji during a courtesy visit to Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Inosi Kuridrani. During her visit, Haskel praised the fruitful collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the agricultural sector.
She highlighted recent developments that include the expansion of internship opportunities for young Fijians in Israel, building upon the success of a previous 11-month program at the Arava International Centre for Agricultural Training, in partnership with the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute. This initiative aims to equip Fijian youth with essential skills and knowledge in innovative agricultural techniques.
Haskel expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Fiji for their unwavering friendship and support, reaffirming Israel’s commitment to collaborate in important areas such as agriculture, climate change, infrastructure development, capacity building, and investment. In response, Kuridrani acknowledged the significance of their relationship, emphasizing the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways’ dedication to enhancing ties with Israel to improve Fiji’s agricultural productivity and resilience through knowledge exchange and innovation.
This visit follows a broader trend of strengthening diplomatic relations between Fiji and Israel, highlighted by recent high-level discussions that have focused on enhancing mutual cooperation across various domains including security, environmental sustainability, and economic development. Such collaboration holds great promise for both nations, particularly as it aims to improve food security and foster a more resilient agricultural landscape in Fiji.
The partnership also reflects a positive trajectory for Fiji as it continues to explore and develop its international relationships, seeking to leverage Israel’s expertise in agriculture and technology to address pressing local challenges. As both countries pursue their mutual interests, this discourse encapsulates a hopeful outlook for future collaborations that could significantly enhance Fiji’s agricultural capabilities and contribute to broader national development goals.
