Keresia Ledua, a young woman from Vanuabalavu, is set to return to her island home for Christmas after dedicating three years to her studies at the University of the South Pacific in Suva. This homecoming is not just a journey; it carries deep emotional significance for Ledua, who has missed her family dearly during her time away.
Expressing her excitement, Ledua shared her eagerness to reunite with her grandmother and father, who have remained in the village. “I came here for studies at USP and after three years, I’m finally going back home. I’m really excited, especially to see my grandmother who is still in the village, and my father who is there. I’m very happy and I can’t wait to see them,” she said.
This Christmas promises to be a heartwarming celebration of family and community, with Ledua planning to reconnect with relatives she has not seen in years. She highlighted the importance of togetherness during this festive season, stating, “We’re planning to meet everyone, especially relatives I haven’t seen for three years. We’ll be gathering as a village and as a mataqali to celebrate Christmas, share a feast and spend time together.”
Returning home after her years of study makes this holiday particularly meaningful for Ledua, as she will be celebrating surrounded by loved ones and the vibrant spirit of her village community. This story serves as a reminder of the profound value of family connections and the joy of reuniting during special occasions. As Ledua looks forward to her first Christmas at home in three years, it is a testament to the strength of familial bonds and the joy that comes with being reunited with one’s roots.
