Is Zack Snyder’s Snyderverse on Netflix Nearing Its End?

A recent report indicates that Zack Snyder’s ambitious Snyderverse on Netflix may be nearing its conclusion. This speculation follows the surprise cancellation of several projects earlier this month, including a sequel to Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” and an animated spin-off, both of which were scrapped during August 2024. Reports now reveal that additional projects have also been axed, such as a second season of the Norse mythology animated series “Twilight of the Gods” and an untitled LAPD SWAT film that Snyder had announced last year.

Despite a tumultuous reception from critics, Snyder’s sci-fi adventure “Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire,” which debuted in December 2023, gained significant traction on the streaming platform. Its sequel, “The Scargiver,” followed in April 2024, both films performing well on the charts, prompting Netflix to release director’s cuts for each. “Twilight of the Gods,” which premiered in September 2024, features Sigrid, a warrior seeking vengeance against Thor. Currently, the series holds a respectable 76% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In addition to his Netflix endeavors, Snyder is also working on “The Last Photograph,” a deeply personal project that features actors from “Rebel Moon,” such as Stuart Martin and Fra Free. The film, penned by Kurt Johnstad, tracks an ex-DEA officer’s desperate search for his missing relatives in South America following the deaths of their diplomat parents. Snyder still has a TV series based on his 2006 epic “300” in development, although it is unlikely to premiere on Netflix.

As fans await news on upcoming releases, there remains a flicker of hope that Snyder’s unique storytelling will continue to find a platform, whether through new theatrical releases or other streaming services dedicated to innovative content.
