Silver highlighted that the 2026 All-Star Game will be broadcast on NBC, coinciding with the network’s coverage of the Winter Olympics, further emphasizing the potential for this format. “What better time to feature some form of USA against the world?” he pondered, while considering the successful “4 Nations Face Off” event by the NHL earlier this year as a model.
However, a significant consideration is that approximately 70% of NBA players are American, presenting a challenge in assembling a competitive “world” team without adversely affecting U.S. player representation. With rising stars like Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Luka Doncic eligible to represent this “world” team, the selection process might lead to notable snubs among American players, which has sparked discussions within the league.
