Irvington Theater is set to launch its inaugural summer season with a special screening of “Gonzo Girl” on June 13, featuring a discussion with the film’s director, Patricia Arquette. This screening takes place just a day after the film’s premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, marking an exciting moment for the local community.
The film, which also stars Camila Morrone and Willem Dafoe, centers around the character Alley Russo, an aspiring writer who becomes an assistant to the famed gonzo journalist Walker Reade, played by Dafoe. Set in Aspen, Colorado, in 1992, “Gonzo Girl” explores themes of co-dependence and addiction as Alley navigates the tumultuous world of her literary idol.
Tom Heller, an Irvington resident and producer of the film, has a notable track record in the industry, having worked on several acclaimed projects such as “Precious” and “127 Hours.” The Irvington Theater has expressed gratitude towards Heller for allowing them to host this event, which promises to be a highlight of their summer programming.
“This will be one of Irvington Theater’s most exciting events, and the official kickoff to our (first!) summer season,” said Shana Liebman, co-chair of the Irvington Theater Commission. The screening is scheduled for June 13 at 7:00 p.m., with tickets priced at $30 available for purchase on the theater’s website.
Irvington Theater has a rich 123-year history of offering diverse programming aimed at entertaining and inspiring audiences, solidifying its position as a cultural cornerstone in the Rivertowns region.
This event not only highlights the creativity and talent within the film industry but also reinvigorates the local cultural scene after a challenging period. It presents a wonderful opportunity for the community to engage with filmmakers and celebrate the art of cinema.
