“Iran Denies Alleged Plot: Trump Assassination vs. General’s Death”

Iran has denied involvement in alleged plots to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump, while emphasizing their pursuit of legal action regarding the 2020 assassination of a prominent general by a U.S. drone.

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran has dismissed accusations of plotting to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump, while highlighting ongoing legal efforts related to the 2020 drone killing of a revered general, the state-run IRNA news agency reported Wednesday.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani, quoted by IRNA, stated that Iran “strongly rejects any involvement in the recent armed attack on Trump or claims about Iran’s intention for such an action.”

Kanaani declared, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to pursue legal action against Trump for his direct role in the crime of assassinating Martyr General Qassem Soleimani.” Soleimani, who led the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad in January 2020.

Following a threat on Trump’s life from Iran, security measures were heightened ahead of Saturday’s campaign rally. However, this threat was not linked to the assassination attempt on the Republican presidential nominee, according to two U.S. officials on Tuesday.

Iran’s U.N. ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, on Tuesday dismissed the accusations against Tehran as “baseless” and “politically motivated.”
